VANESSA ARBUTHNOTT
The Cotswold countryside is the setting for Vanessa Arbuthnott’s life and it hugely influences the look of her fabrics. The developing fashion in interior design is towards simple patterns, which reflect a basic and rustic way of living, and she has been hugely fortunate that this mirrors her life and, thus, her designs. Gentle colours are her signature and included buttercup, limestone, clay, damson, duck egg, stone, raspberry, mushroom, cornflower, straw and lettuce. The fabrics are perfect for loose covers for chairs and sofas, upholstery, curtains and blinds, bed heads, valances, cushions and tablecloths. The fabrics are produced in the UK and are printed on Linen Union and 100% cotton and some designs are available on oilcloth, wallpaper and floor rugs. They are moving towards using only organic cotton in order to protect the cotton pickers from harmful pesticides. They are constantly trying to find ‘greener’ ways to run their business.
